Friday means Music!

Most Friday mornings these past months have been spent at a nearby church, taking part in an hour-long music session geared for kids 0-5 years.  We go there with K and her mama, who told me about it, and we've occasionally seen one of the other moms from our church there as well.  Munch loves this time.  She loves the toys, the music, and especially the opportunity to run or stomp around in a room far bigger than any we have at home.  What she is not such a big fan of:  Lots of other noisy kids, and the fact that she doesn't get to play with the toys as long as *she* wants to...Can we say the 'only-child syndrome' is starting to kick in...big time?  The last couple of weeks, I've actually taken her out of the room for a bit while she was throwing her tantrum(s).  Of course hardly ANY of the other moms seem to have that sort of problem with THEIR kids, which quickly leads me down the dismal 'what am I doing wrong' path...Even though it's totally normal for a kid her age to do things like this... :P

But she does love to dance to that music.  She'll stand in the middle of the taped-on circle and stomp her feet and bounce up and down with such enthusiasm.  We always have streamers laid out around the circle at the beginning of the hour, drums and other noisy instruments at the end, and balls, snowflakes, tiny stuffed bears, large rings, etc. all throughout the hour at different times or different days...But Munch's big favorite is the parachute:  not only does the song it goes with consist mainly of two words she already knows ("Up and down, up and down, my parachute goes up and down"), but we have two different ways to play with it.  Last week she stood next to me for the first part as I raised and lowered it with the other moms.  Their young ones wiggled and giggled beneath it, but she had no interest whatsoever in going in there with them...As soon as we set it down for the children to get onto, however, she was all over it.  We have them all sit down in the center, then we hold the edges to spin it around in a circle.  She thinks it's about the best ride EVER.

Carrying a 'snowball' and scrunching her face for the camera.  K's mama took this shot with a camera much fancier than mine... ;)
