Some time back, about the time Munch was 9 months old, she was very engaged in her little telephone toy. It has a button that, if pushed down, says 'bye-bye,' and if released says 'hello.' She loved to push it down, and loved to copy the 'b-b' sound. And then she stopped making that sound, apparently moving on to other things that were of greater interest.
Today Daddy is working downtown instead of at home, where he usually is. On days like these, we make any number of trips to Daddy's office, ony to have Munch stand in the doorway just staring at Daddy's empty chair. Eventually she gives up and goes to do something else--that is, until the next time she has to check, just in case he's come back, of course. Poor little thing. I tell her that Daddy went 'bye-bye' and that he'll be back later, and she's starting to pick that up. Today when I told her Daddy had gone 'bye-bye', she waved her fat little hand and said, 'Buh-bai'. Then she pointed to Daddy's door, and we went back, and she said 'da-da', then waved again, 'buh-bai'. And just when this proud Mama started to think her dear super-smart little Munch actually completely understood what she was saying, Munch started pointing at any number of other items (like the previously mentioned calendar, the front door, and one of her toys) and telling them 'buh-bai' as well. But be that as it may...she's just too cute as she walks around, me in tow, learning how to interact with her world.
