To Nap or Not to Nap...

...That is the question.
Whether 'tis nobler for preschooler's mind
To suffer hours of outrageous sleeping
Or to take arms against the sand-man's aims,
And by opposing, end them.  To laugh- to play-
E'er more; and by her play to say she ends
The conflict 'gainst thousand nat'ral wishes
Her mother may have.  'Tis a consummation
Devoutly to be wish'd.  To laugh- to play.
To play- perchance to rise! Aye, there's the goal!
For in that rise what joys might 'wait her sight
When she has shuffled out her room to speak
And give Mom pause.  There's the true hope
That makes calamity of slumber's right.
How can she bear the snores and dark of sleep,
Or countless hours of silent wakeful thought,
The pangs of long boredom, the clock's delay,
The insolence of Mother, who spurns noise
Howe're soft it may be, still unworthy
To be counted daylight slumber, when sun
Gives light so fine and free?  Is't madness true
To lie and rest 'neath love-worn quilted spread,
But that the dread of something greater--Dad--
The unexpected parent, from whose words
No child dare turn--exacts expectations,
And makes her rather bear those ills she has
Than to fly to joyful freedom of play?
Thus conscience does make for obedience,
The native hue of resolution ends.
'Tis sicklied o'er with the pale cast of thought,
Great enterprises of the young mind turn'd...
And yet, perchance some small sound may yet win,
So loose it now in action! --But now soft!
The mother comes!  "Mama, I love you so
Much and so well!  I sleep now!"

Yes, I wrote this today, with some help from a favorite long-gone author.  :)  And no, she did not sleep today...
