The Playmobile Advent calendar I made last year as gone wonderfully so far this year. The Munch loves it, and everyday is calling out every couple of hours or so, "Is it time to do something?" ...The 'something' being of course the Advent book, and then the opening of a box with another part of the manger scene inside...it took me a bit to figure out what she was referring to, but she couldn't remember the name of it to be able to tell me. For the most part, she's content to wait when I tell her it isn't time yet, but when the time comes to read around 7 each night, she very eagerly settles on the couch and waits for me to get the book...and she's got portions of the earlier days memorized already, since we read them every day, then add a new page to the story each night.
She will play exclusively with the little pieces for good portions of the day, and until we got to day 7 (the day we read about Jesus' birth), she was constantly asking when we would open the Baby Jesus, if he would be that night, where he was. Well, obviously day 7 has passed, and she was thrilled to find him in his box, and has played with him almost to the exclusion of the other people in the set. To prevent the kittens from unsettling the scene or losing things, I wrapped a shoe box and have the Munch store everything inside it when she's not playing with them. She's been pretty responsible about this...Until today. Today, Jesus is missing, and we've looked everywhere for him. Hopefully he'll turn up at some point soon, because it would really bite to be minus the pivotal piece of the manger scene...
But for the moment, we're contenting ourselves with mild irreverences...
"I lost Jesus."
"Have you found Jesus?"
"You can't put Jesus in a box."
"We are waiting for Jesus' imminent return, but we know not the hour."
"If I was lost, and then was found, what happens if Jesus is lost?"
Oh, the possibilities....
