The Mini's dedication happened all the way back in May, on Mother's Day, just as the Munch's had when she was a baby. Daddy's parents and younger sister, along with a long-time family friend and her friend, came into town for the event. They joined us for the dedication at our church , for lunch at the same Italian restaurant we'd gone to for the Munch's dedication, and then for hang-out time and dinner at our house. It was a very pleasant, busy day for all of us.
It was the first time Grandpa had gotten to meet the Mini, and the second time she'd seen Grandma. She settled in just fine with both of them.
But after a while, it was time for Daddy Snuggles. :)
Now here is a cool story of how God works: When we got up on the stage, we unwittingly positioned ourselves in the worst spot possible...those music stands and mics were right in between us and Daddy's family, effectively blocking any pictures that Grandma or Auntie tried to take. BUT, a friend of ours who'd sat in a much better spot, took pictures (and video!) without our knowledge and sent them all to us. So we ended up with some beautiful pictures despite our mistake. Yay for the little things He does for us!
Praying for the children. The Mini was given her own copy of the same Bible, the Jesus Storybook Bible, that we have for the Munch. In some ways, it feels redundant, because by the time she'll be ready for it, the Munch will have outgrown hers...but at the same time, I'm glad she can have her own copy to love. It's a beautiful little Bible, and I'm looking forward to reading it with her.
There were 4 other families dedicating that morning, and a couple of other families dedicated their children a few weeks later. Just like the Munch, the Mini has lots of little peers. We are a church that loves babies!
After the service, we found a corner for a family photo. Grandma M had made a dress for the Munch to wear, and the Mini finally got to wear a sweet little crochetted dress that Daddy's older sister had found and given to us at Christmas (I'd kept it in mind for her dedication from the moment I saw it, too--the length and relative simplicity of it made me think of christening dresses). I was rather delighted at how well the girls' dresses matched, without my even trying!
The Mini followed in her sister's footsteps after the service...she was fast asleep by the time we got to the restaurant that is literally kitty corner from our church. She woke midway through and got a bottle and some carrots, and all was happy and well. :)
The rest of the day was a bit of a whirl. Everyone came over to our house and we hung out and talked while the girls napped. Daddy grilled dinner for us later, and we all had a fun afternoon together.
One funny story from this: Daddy's sister had recently visited the Jelly Belly factory, and had come away with several very large bags of 'reject' jelly beans--too small, too large, stuck together, etc.--and she'd brought one of the bags to share with us. So as we sat in the living room chatting, we blithely passed around the bag of jellies, picking out our favorites. When we were mostly satisfied, we put the bag on a chair, ready for anyone who wanted them. Eventually, one of our friends got up to help himself to a few more. He picked up the bag, and from that instant, it seemed that everything went in slow motion...for you see, the bag hadn't been opened very cleanly, and was somewhat torn along one side, and he picked up the wrong part of the bag, which put extra pressure on that tear, and...well, you know what happened. I saw the opening stretch just a little, and I gasped, "It's going to tear!" and then of course it did...and nearly 5 pounds of jelly beans went scattering all over our living room floor. Everyone dived for them (at least, everyone whose knees enabled them to), scrambling frantically to pick up all those jellies before one of the cats, who were suddenly VERY interested in what was happening, could pounce on anything. Only after we'd finished cleaning did we think about what a marvelous picture or video it could have made...But, well, hindsight, y'know. Despite our efforts, though, for the next 2 or 3 months we were still finding the random jelly bean here or there, hiding away in a dark corner somewhere that even the cats couldn't find, apparently. I THINK they're all gone now...until I find the next one, that is...
So that was how we spent my first Mother's Day as a Mama of two. Baby dedication. Italian food. Family. Friends. Jelly beans. It was a good day. :)
